On the Rota da Reboleira it is possible to contemplate landscapes marked by human presence, through the villages that dot the intense green of the horizon, by the carved patchwork on the earth, terraces, lameiros, leafy forests and uncultivated areas of grazing. It is also possible to witness the influence of shale in the typical houses of the mountains and in the walls that adorn part of the route and that typify the landscape.
One of the most prominent places on the Rota da Reboleira, which is evidenced by its native vegetation characteristic of the intermediate floor, is the Souto do Concelho. Known locally as “Reboleiro”, this wild tree produces small but very tasty chestnuts that are dried by the fireplace in winter and have been an important source of food in the past. As the name suggests, the Souto do Concelho is an area of castinçal owned by the Municipality of Manteigas and that gains in autumn a multicolor expression of extreme natural beauty.
The Rota da Reboleira allows a unique opportunity to walk a trail flooded by the beauty of the Zêzere River Valley, the immensity of the Mountains, the magnificence of mixed forests and resinous forests, populated by invaluable species and unique geological phenomena, such as cascalheiras, which correspond to deposits of coarse, unconsolidated rocky fragments, of variable lithology and mobility , usually located in slopes of moderate to strong inclination, colonized or not by vascular vegetation, standing out in a unique way in the natural landscape that surrounds the trail.
This route also makes known the Ski Slope – SkiParque, which offers the possibility of skiing and snowboarding all year round on synthetic slopes.
The Rota da Reboleira allows the observation of floristic species of high conservation interest such as holly or holm oak. You can also see the amyster, the chestnut tree, the pilriteiro, the heather, the rose bush, etc.
The diversity of habitats present is equivalent to an equal multiplicity of fauna, especially the hunter tartaranhão, water mole, the big horseshoe bat, the small horseshoe bat, the ladder snake, the bush owl, the peneireiro, the boar, the fox, among others.
In the vicinity of the trail can be found some hives, and in no way should be disturbed! Hikers who may develop anaphylactic reactions should be extra careful.
